It is with regret that the Board of Selectmen have received Pat Jewett’s resignation from the Board of Selectmen. An institution of Litchfield, Pat has served our community for 27 years on the School Board and the Board of Selectmen. Beyond the regular meetings and responsibilities of the job, she has spent countless hours assisting those in our community who are less fortunate. She also annually leads a drive to prepare holiday gift packages to our local men and women serving in the armed forces. We will miss the benefit of Pat’s experience and her reminders to our consciences. For many residents, Pat was their direct connection to local government; when they had a question or concern, she was the first person they called. Pat Jewett has epitomized service to our community.
As always, she remains concerned about the voice of the voter and advised us of her intentions to step down from the Board effective at Town Meeting, so that Litchfield voters would have the opportunity to vote directly at the upcoming March Town Meeting on filling the vacancy on the Board of Selectmen. So, in addition to the 2 regularly open seats with three year terms on the Board of Selectmen, there will also be 1 open seat for a 1 year term position.
